Charice Pempengco gets Botox for ‘Glee’ debut

July 23, 2010

Teenage singing sensation Charice Pempengco is in the news again.

After her well applauded singing of the Philippine national anthem during the inauguration of President Benigno Aquino III at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, Charice is now preparing for her debut on the hit Fox TV show “Glee” next month.

Charice, whose full name is Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, earned mixed reactions when she disclosed that as part of her preparations for “Glee,” she got Botox injections and an anti-aging procedure “to look fresh on camera” with the controversial Vicki Belo.

Many said it was too early for the 18-year-old singer to undergo Botox and anti-aging operation. Others said they were not necessary considering that makeup could improve or enhance her look on the set of “Glee.”
Others defended the young star as they clarified that the Botox was for muscle pain, not for cosmetic reasons. Charice became popular after conquering the Ellen DeGeneres’ and Oprah Winfrey’s talk shows.
Immediately after that, she appeared in many shows in the United States, South Korea, the Philippines.
Cosmetic surgeon, Vicki Belo explained that Charice underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure and Botox injections to make her “naturally round face” more narrow.

However, Charice’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said the Botox was “absolutely not cosmetic,” and added said the treatment was for muscle pain in her jaw.

Belo did the Botox procedure in front of the cameras, it was reported. Charice said she auditioned for “Glee” in mid-June in Los Angeles and was thankful to have been accepted. “It’s really a blessing,” she said, adding she was “very proud to be an Asian, very proud to be Filipino.”
