MANILA – Justice Secretary Leila De Lima will recommend to President Aquino III the appointment of a new chairman for the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and a new set of commissioners. De Lima noted that the terms of all incumbent commissioners of the PCGG, along with its chair, Camilo Sabio who submitted his courtesy resignation last month, were coterminous with that of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the then appointing authority.
“I will recommend that the President appoint a new chair as well as commission- ers for the PCGG,” the DOJ chief said.
De Lima earlier voided the memorandum circular issued by PCGG Commissioner Ricardo Abcede declaring himself as the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the anti-graft agency.
Abcede issued the memorandum circular following the courtesy resignation of Sabio last June 30. The PCGG is one of the attached agencies under the DOJ. In voiding Abcede’s memorandum circular, De Lima said that she has not designated Abcede or any of the PCGG commissioners to act as the agency’s OIC.
