Jinggoy seeks Aquino support for movie industry

July 9, 2010

SAN JUAN CITY – Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada has asked President Benigno Aquino III to return the management of the Metro Film Festival to the movie industry leaders by way of supporting the movie industry. Estrada said he had talked about the transfer with the President, saying this was the only request he had made to the new Chief Executive.

The young Estrada pointed out that the film festival was a project started and nurtured by the showbiz industry to benefit the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) which his father, former President Joseph Estrada, supported.

Later on, the film festival was turned over to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to manage, he said. “We hope this will be corrected very soon and the movie industry leaders themselves would take over soon,”Estrada said. Meanwhile, TV 5 will soon venture into producing movies through a company that will be called Cinema Buhay. For its initial offering, Cinema Buhay will produce a drama film titled “Rosario” which is earmarked for the Metro Manila Filmfest in December.

Likewise, the movie will mark the directorial debut of actor Albert Martinez. Jennylyn Mercado will play
Rosario. Other cast members include Dennis Trillo (Ricardo), Isabel Oli (Carmen), Sid Lucero (Carding), Phillip Salvador (Don Enrique), Dolphy (Jesus), and Empress Schuck (Soledad).
