AlDub’s second date draws 25.6-million tweets, sets new Guinness world record

Don’t look now, but Eat Bulaga’s “kalye” series may have set a new Guinness World Record with 25.6 million tweets recorded.
Yes, Virginia, the big number of tweets could have surpassed the Super Bowl XLIX event in the United States with 25.1 million.
The hashtag #AlDubEBforLOVE reportedly drew in a total of 25,652,800 tweets from 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 26, according to online reports.
The GMA Network show also smashed on Twitter the four love teams of ABS-CBN during the sixth anniversary celebration of “It’s Showtime Kapamilya Day” at the jampacked Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, Manila Bulletin’s Robert Requintina reported.
As of 7 p. m. on Sept. 26, the “akyat-ligaw” episode of the Kalyeserye had 23.1 million tweets. In the same period, ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime” had 6.7 million tweets for #ShowtimeKapamilyaDay.
By the time the “Eat Bulaga” show ended at 3 p.m., AlDub fanatics had already posted a record-breaking 19 million tweets.
Even the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines joined in the fun and extolled the “AlDub” segment of the noontime show Eat Bulaga on GMA-7 for promoting good values.

“Supporting the noble cause of spreading virtue, values and morality that our nation deserves. #ALDubEBforLOVE,” the CBCP said on its Twitter account.
Even before the episode aired, the show already successfully broke the 12.1 million record tweet for #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate. The publication claimed that more than 2.5 million tweets per hour were sent during the record breaking episode, according to the network.
Michael DiCarso, the Guinness World Records head for ASEAN records, however explained that they still needed to go through standard procedures to determine if AlDub, indeed, was able to break the records, reported Zeibiz.
“We are still going to look at the possible loopholes in this such as duplicate accounts and tweets that aren’t related to the topic,” DiCarso was quoted as saying by the GMA News.
According to Radio Times, Super Bowl XLIX currently holds the record for the most tweeted about in 2015, with 25.1 million tweets sent. On the other hand, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is reportedly the most tweeted about event in history with 672 million messages. During the finals game, it was said that 618,725 tweets were sent per minute.
Although it has yet to be confirmed if AlDub was able to break Super Bowl’s record, many fans believed that it is not far from happening. Netizens from all around the globe have also expressed interest in the onscreen couple, wondering why they trend almost every single day.
Recently, a photo of Ellen Degeneres asking Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza to guest on her talk show circulated online but the veracity of the photo was in question.
With AlDub’s success, came the success also of the two – Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.
Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza have earned advertising endorsements and even parts in movies.
Even before Alden started shooting his filmfest entry, “My Bebe Love,” and director Joey Reyes, to much rejoicing of Aldub fans, posted their photos on social media. Alden’s initial scenes were with Ai Ai de las Alas. He is not shooting yet with Maine Mendoza, a.k.a. Yaya Dub. He will only shoot his scenes with her after they’ve also started talking to each other in the “Kalyeserye.”
Last Saturday, they had their first date but, as Yaya Dub herself says, it’s “bitin” since she was ordered to leave immediately and take to Lola Nidora the medicines she needs.
But their date last Saturday culminated into a staggering total of 12.1 million tweets with “AlDubMostAwaitedDate” as hashtag. Ratings-wise, they got another all time of 36%, higher than the rating of primetime shows. It seems the “Pastillas girl” of the rival show wasn’t of much help since their rating remains to be in the single digit.
The “Aldub” love team just celebrated their second “monthsary” and no doubt their tandem has truly changed their lives for the better, according to columnist Mario Bautista.
Alden, aside from his two endorsements with Yaya Dub, has no less than 15 new product endorsements waiting for him to shoot a TV commercial with them, the columnist reported.
GMA Artist Center is making a killing from him since they will get a 20% commission from all his endorsements, as he’s under contract with them as his managers. And they should thank TAPE and “Eat Bulaga” for boosting Alden’s career while GMA has not given him any project since “Ilustrado,” which they’re now even replaying on GMA News TV to take advantage and cash in on Alden’s new found popularity.
The popular AlDub tandem has been generating a lot of interest for the show’s segment practically getting viewers glued to their TV sets as the segment takes a life of its own.
Before “It’s Showtime” went live at around 11 a.m., it already breached three million tweets. “AlDub,” by that time already reached 11 million tweets.
The Smart Araneta Coliseum was packed with screaming fans who lined up for the show early Saturday morning. “It’s Showtime” gave away prizes to lucky members in the audience.
While Richards was preparing for his second date with Yaya Dub, “It’s Showtime” held court for the love teams of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (Kath-Niel), James Reid and Nadine Lustre (Ja-Dine) and Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano (Liz-Quen), and Kim Chui and Xian Lim (Kim-Xi).
Other big stars also graced the show, including Coco Martin, who surprised Angelica Yap, also known as the Pastillas Girl, with a song number. Karylle, Julia Montes, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Vina Morales, and Richard Yap were also present.
Manila Bulletin’s Robert Requintina reported that the excitement over AlDub peaked Friday after Lola Nidora played by Wally Bayola opened her mansion for Richards and Yaya Dub’s second date.
After the first far-apart lunch date last Saturday that was cut short by Yaya Dub’s caregiver duties, Alden and Yaya Dub finally met up close in Lola Nidora’s mansion yesterday even violating Nidora’s no-touch condition when she cupped Richard’s hands as she drank water when she choked on food when no one was looking.
They also had their first picture together.
In compliance to Lola Nidora’s condition, Alden sang the AlDub theme song, “God Gave Me You.” Richards turned emotional, choking on the lyrics and was in tears halfway through the song giving rise to suspicion that the kalyeserye was turning real for the pair. Those in the studio were likewise in tears. The video of Richards in tears also went viral.
Aside from four bouquet of flowers which he handed to Yaya Dub, Lola Nidora, Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros), and Tinidora (Jose Manalo), Richards also brought with him food – from the Eat Bulaga studio in Broadway, Quezon City.
Alden drove his way to the mansion for his second date as hundreds of fans lined the street bursting into wild cheers.
Aldub you all! PS Good vibes lang tayo all the way, ano? Happy, happy lang!”
