Nora Aunor wins top Cinemalaya acting award

Nora Aunor seems used to having the last laugh.
After being snubbed by President Benigno S. Aquino III for the government’s National Artist Award, the superstar continues to harvest other awards for his excellence in acting.
Nora’s latest acting trophy, an addition to her gallery of awards, is the Best Actress award in the just concluded Cinemalaya film festival.
The singer-actress earned the Best Actress award for her role in the movie “Hustisya” which was megged by award-winning director Joel Lamangan.
In receiving her award, the superstar cited her director Joel Lamangan and scriptwriter Ricky Lee and the men and women behind the movie “Hustisya.”
“Sa wakas nagkaroon na rin ako ng pelikula sa Cinemalaya (Finally, I had a Cinemalaya movie),” said Nora in her acceptance speech, which was met by thunderous applause from the audience.
“Asahan ninyo po na habang nandyan kayo, na sumusuporta pa rin po, ay patuloy pa rin po akong gagawa ng mga pelikulang makabuluhan at kapupulutan po ng aral, lalong lalo na ng mga kabataan (You can expect that for as long as you are around, supporting me, I will do meaningful movies, where the youth can learn from. I hope my films will serve as an inspiration to them),” she added.

The awarding ceremonies for the annual independent filmfest were held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater.
Top actor Robert Arevalo won the Best Actor, also for Directors Showcase, for his performance in “Hari ng Tondo”. In the New Breed category.
Other big winners were Eula Valdez, best actress, new breed, for her role in the movie “Dagitab” and veteran actor Dante Rivero (1st Ko si 3rd”), best actor, new breed.

The Best Film award went to the movie “Kasal” in the Directors Showcase and “Bwaya” in the New Breed category.

Other highlights were awarding Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia in real life) the Gawad Balanghai for his outstanding contribution to Philippine Independent Cinema; Kidlat giving Cinemalaya the bamboo camera token; and David Corpuz winning the special jury prize for The Ordinary Things We Do, an experimental film that somewhat pays tribute to the visual nature of films (with that wide screen shot splitting intro three frames).
