Cavite Medical Mission, Chairman Dr. Fran Montellano Co-Chair: Dr. Nunilo Rubio – The FEUMAANI 2014 Medical-Humanitarian Mission was the culmination of almost two years of preparation of fundraising and more in support of the mission. What was only a medical mission in Cavite was extended to a humanitarian mission in Samar as a result of the devastation wrought in Samar and Leyte by the strongest typhoon ever recorded in history, Typhoon Yolanda, International code; Haiyan. The towns of Trece Martirez, General Trias and Bacoor were the sites of the Cavite Medical Mission.
During the three-day medical mission in Cavite from January 27-29, it was an unbelievable daily scene of thousands of patients enduring the long queues and the heat to seek medical treatment. There were 4,097 patients seen at the outpatient clinic alone in addition to a great number of major and minor surgeries performed at the Trece Marteres Provincial Hospital by the surgical team.
Samar Medical-Humanitarian Mission (January 31-February 3) –The Samar Medical Mission team was composed of a few volunteers, viz: Drs. I. Labao, L. Marasigan-Labao, Cristine Pia Tan Hechanova, Ricci Anjo Guzman, Mr. Rowell Alcaraz and Dr. Frank Montellano. Drs. Ed Relucio and David Kelvin did not make it to this leg of the mission because their flight was cancelled. The medical team saw a total of 61 patients on the first day, 148 on the 2nd day and 283 on the last day.
