Lim, Puno to face raps for failed hostage rescue

MANILA —President Aquino will not spare Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and Undersecretary Rico Puno in connection with the tragic outcome of the Aug. 23 hostage crisis even if they are among his closest friends.
This was hinted by the President himself when he said that no one would escape responsibility for the botched hostage rescue in which eight Hong Kong tourists were killed together with the hostage-taker, a bemedalled Manila police officer dismissed by the Ombudsman. Continue reading
NPA purging continues — Army

MANILA -Government forces exhumed the skeletal remains of two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who were believed victims of purging within their ranks last Monday.
Army spokesman Col. Antonio Parlade said the bodies of victims were identified as Bobong Lumbanayan Anduyo, alias “Iso,” and Rito Mawang, alias ‘Jeffrey.’ They were exhumed by joint military and police authaorities in a remote village in Sitio Pundasyon, Barangay Concepcion, Laak, Compostela Valley. MANILA – A college student in Manila is lauding President Benigno S. Aquino III for choosing to deliver many of his speeches in Tagalog.
“It’s a plus point as more people can understand him better,” La Consolacion College psychology student Emilyn Castillo said Thursday on the side of the ‘Report Kay Boss’ townhall-like meeting at the school to mark the end of Mr. Aquino’s first 100 days as head of State. Continue reading
BIR starts probe of personalities linked to jueteng

MANILA – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has started its own investigation into government officials and other personalities allegedly benefiting from illegal numbers game jueteng.
“While the hearing was going on, we have already started accessing information on those names that were mentioned,” BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares told reporters in a press conference Thursday at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Continue reading
Enrile dares Pag-ibig to file falsification cases against Globe Asiatique

MANILA – Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile challenged on Thursday the Pag-IBIG Fund to file falsification charges against Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp. for allegedly making accounts of hundreds of questionable buyers just to get some P7 billion loan.
”Pag-IBIG should file falsification case against this guy,” Enrile said, referring to Globe Asiatique (GA) chairman and President Delfin Lee who attended the Senate inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the housing loan transactions between Pag-IBIG and GA.

MANILA — President Benigno S. Aquino III on Thursday proudly reported to the country that the weather forecasts and weather bulletins have greatly improved, enabling the citizens to be alert in cases of floods, landslides and when to avoid traveling by sea or air.
In his first 100 days report at the La Consolacion College in Mendiola, the President said that “intermittent rain showers across the country are now explicitly explained in details as to time and place so that the fishermen can avoid fishing then.” Continue reading
Comelec drops OTC as stamp pads supplier for failure to meet requirement — Rafanan

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dropped the One-Time Carbon (OTC) Paper Supply Inc. as the supplier of the stamp pads to be used for the Oct. 25 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.
In an interview, Atty. Ferdinand Rafanan, head of the Comelec’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC), said Thursday the company failed to comply with the requirement for the P15.6-million project.
He noted that a pad should produce 600 clear fingerprints, but the sample submitted by OTC only recorded slightly more than 500 fingerprints. Continue reading

BORACAY ISLAND – Encouraged by the Department of Tourism (DoT), the Aklan provincial government is now working on to showcase cultural presentation as the next tourism attraction for this resort island.
Vicky Ramos-Antonino of the Aklan Provincial Tourism Council said they are now bent in developing cultural showcase for tourists visiting this resort island as encouraged by DoT Secretary Alberto Lim.
The National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA) is also supporting in the endeavor.
