Is Xi Jinping the second Hitler?

During his interview with the New York Times at the Malacañang Palace last February 4, 2014, President Benigno Aquino III brought to the attention of the international community China’s aggressive moves in the South China Sea.  Little did he know that when he likened China’s rulers to Hitler, it would evoke a vitriolic response from China.  Continue reading

P-Noy’s Achilles’ heel

With all the criticism and links to corruption, scandal and anomalies involving subordinates, cronies, and relatives, President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III’s popularity remains “good” or “very good.”   Some people call him the “Teflon President” and his detractors call him “lucky sanobabits.”  Continue reading

The fall of a Titan

After half-century of political life, erstwhile Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile stepped down from the pinnacle of power in June 2013, a role that he had performed with calculated planning and precise execution. His adroit balancing act during the impeachment trial of then-Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was the epitome of his political career. Continue reading

The good, the bad, and Yolanda

Super typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda was the worst typhoon in recorded history, weather experts say.  Indeed, the loss of life and property was staggering.  With 6,092 deaths, 27,665 injured, and 1,779 missing, it would take a massive effort to rebuild the lives of the survivors of the biggest storm of all time.   Continue reading

Ping faces his toughest challenge

Is anyone surprised that President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III picked former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as the “rehabilitation czar” to help the victims of Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan?  And it probably surprised Lacson, too. Why?  Well, who would take this “rehab czar” job and expect to rebuild more than a million homes?  Continue reading

The making of a dictator

Little did President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III know that after three years at the top of the world, reality would seep in and turn it upside down.  And it happened just when he finished his longest State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 2013 where he trumpeted his achievements in superlative terms.  Continue reading

Gran padrino de los ladrones

If there is one trait that has remained the bedrock of colonial mentality long after Spain sold Las Islas Filipinas to Uncle Sam for $20 million over a century ago, it is the time-tested “padrino system” that we inherited from the Spanish colonizers.  It is ingrained in the Filipino psyche affecting his way of life including the way he deals with others.    Continue reading

The ‘Pork Barrel King’ under siege!

If there is one thing that President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III consistently does, it is to blame his predecessor, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for all the ills and scandals that befall his administration.  And poor Gloria can’t do anything to defend herself from her detention room at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.  Continue reading

Jinggoy jingles!

Little did Benhur Luy know that when he blew the whistle on his former employer – and cousin — Janet Lim Napoles, it would unleash a tsunami of colossal magnitude that threatens the very survival of our political system. All he wanted was for justice to be served on Napoles for allegedly detaining him against his will for three months.   Instead justice gave him more than what he wished for: three senators were indicted for plunder.  Continue reading

Scourge of our times

Lately, the people have been asking, “What’s going on with our country?”   First, the Ballsy Aquino-Cruz alleged extortion followed by the Bureau of Customs smuggling scandal.  Then the pork barrel scandal erupted.  Then, on September 9, 2013, a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) under Nur Misuari attacked Zamboanga City and took more than 300 hostages.  That’s too much for P-Noy to take.  Continue reading
